Note: People 5 years old and older are considered to have a self-care disability if they report one or more of the following lasting for 6 months or more: difficulty dressing, bathing, or getting around inside the home. Employment refers to civilians 16 years old and older who do any work at all during the week as paid employees, work in their own business, farm, profession, or work 15 hours or more as unpaid workers in a family business or farm. Employed does not refer to people who work only around their own house, work as unpaid volunteers, or are on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces.

To calculate the percent of those employed (or not employed) with a self-care disability by state, divide the number of those employed (or not employed) for a particular state by the total number of people reporting a self-care disability in the same state and multiply the result by 100. Example: Calculate the percent of those employed with a self-care disability in Oregon. This calculation would be: 8,261/34,532=.2392 and .2392x100=23.92%
