Note: People 16-64 years old are considered to have an employment disability if they report the following lasting for 6 months or more: difficulty working at a job or business. Employment refers to civilians 16 years old and older who do any work at all during the week as paid employees, work in their own business, farm, profession, or work 15 hours or more as unpaid workers in a family business or farm. Employed does not refer to people who work only around their own house, work as unpaid volunteers, or are on active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces.
To calculate the percent of those employed (or not employed) with an employment disability by state, divide the number of those employed (or not employed) for a particular state by the total number of people reporting an employment disability in the same state and multiply the result by 100. Example: Calculate the percent of those employed with an employment disability in Oklahoma. This calculation would be: 148,327/247,784=.5986 and .5986x100=59.86%
